Features:
This hike to Indian Bar from the Box Canyon trailhead is an extreme endeavor if it is done in one day as an in and out hike.
To hike to Indian Bar from the Box Canyon view area, just follow the signs to the Wonderland Trail and turn to your right and hike north.
The first three miles of this hike are located in heavily forested areas.
The hike begins rather gently for the first mile but after you cross Nickel Creek and past the cutoff to the Nickel Creek Camp area,
the trail becomes much steeper and remains that way until you reach the junction to Cowlitz Divide trail. However, the trail continues
to climb for another mile and a quarter, where you will have gained nearly 2500' of elelvation from the beginning of the hike in almost
four miles. After the Cowlitz Ridge junction, the trail is more and more out in the open providing world class views of the surrounding
mountains and valleys.
The trail reaches its highest elevation of 5915' after about 5.85 miles. After this, the trail descends steeply into the
Ohanapecosh River valley where the Indian Bar Camp is located.
